Directory of Acadian Heritage in Quebec

The Acadian Museum of Quebec and the Coalition of Acadian Organizations of Quebec present the Acadian Heritage Directory in Quebec. Places of interest, institutions, events, and notable figures reflect Acadian identity and thus become well-known witnesses to this heritage in Quebec history. This directory showcases the rich Acadian heritage in the development of Quebec society.

The directory is intended to inventory and compile information on tangible and intangible assets that are part of Quebec's cultural heritage and that can be attributed to Acadians who settled in Quebec. The tangible and intangible assets covered are those that represent significant heritage value: buildings, churches, ancestral homes, museums, interpretation centers, monuments, commemorative plaques, festivals, significant events, etc.

The selected artifacts are visible, easily identifiable, and recognized in their local environment. Descriptions include historical and contextual information demonstrating their Acadian origin.

Intangible assets such as festivals, significant events, and specific cultural aspects are described in a way that demonstrates the historical basis linking them to the Acadian presence in the community.

This project is made possible thanks to financial support from the Quebec government’s Secrétariat aux affaires intergouvernementales canadiennes (Secretariat for Canadian Intergovernmental Affairs) under its financial support programs for the Canadian Francophonie, the Société nationale de l’Acadie (National Society of Acadia), and the 2014 World Acadian Congress.
