About the book:
Although Percé has a masculine name, this place is feminine in nature, with a splendor that elevates the soul and captivates even the most skeptical. No one can remain indifferent to the charm of Percé and its famous rock, which reflects an ever-changing and indescribable light.

This book covers the old village of Percé, i.e., the town center excluding the boundaries of the larger town that was merged in 1970. The territorial scope covered corresponds roughly to the coastal perimeter of the Percé heritage site, from Pic de l'Aurore to Cap Blanc, including Percé Rock, Bonaventure Island, Mont Sainte-Anne, Mont Blanc, and Route des Failles.

The history of Percé is fascinating in more ways than one. Percé was the birthplace of the cod fishing industry in Quebec and the arrival and settlement of the first Europeans in the Gaspé Peninsula. This maritime city promoted the growth of fishing under the impetus of Jersey companies...

In writing these pages, I pursued the quest for a certain memory of Percé. I wanted to build a bridge between history—what fills the past—and memory—what remains of the past or what we seek to remember. I sought to understand, recreate, and imagine the Percé of yesteryear. I wanted to bring to life characters, families, and significant events in a text guided by time, place, and witnesses.
