Espace Indigo
Located in Bonaventure, in the heart of Baie-des-Chaleurs, Espace Indigo is a contemporary art gallery that showcases artists with strong ties to Gaspésie. Many artists have exhibited in this historic space, in group, solo, or duo shows.
A gallery rooted in Gaspesian culture
In 2008, internationally renowned artist Denise Hudon founded the Grimoire, followed in 2010 by her Studio/Gallery. On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the city of Bonaventure, Isabelle Rioux opened a gallery on Grand-Pré Street, before collaborating with Denise to establish the Art Gallery on the museum site. Rachel Thibault then continued this legacy for two consecutive summers by exhibiting works by Denise Hudon. These three protagonists actively promoted contemporary art in Gaspésie and contributed to a cultural legacy that continues to be carried on by a new generation of enthusiasts.
Title
A cooperative space for local artists
Today, Espace Indigo is run by a young, dynamic team consisting of Valérie Essiambre, Michelle Larouche, and Renée Henry. Operating on a cooperative model, the gallery gives space to local artists, who take turns welcoming visitors and acting as custodians. This provides the public with a unique opportunity to meet the artists and discover the stories behind their works.
A space dedicated to contemporary art
Specializing in contemporary art, the gallery offers works that explore the limits of representation and challenge established conventions. Located in Baie-des-Chaleurs, Espace Indigo appeals to both amateurs and connoisseurs of visual arts, with a varied collection that reflects the artistic richness of Gaspésie. Whether you are looking for a piece to add to your collection or simply want to discover the artistic heritage of Gaspésie, Espace Indigo is a must-see during your visit to Bonaventure.
