DIVE INTO THE PAST
Discovering underwater archaeology

Temporary exhibition presented from June 7 to October 16, 2022.

The Acadian Museum of Quebec (MAQ) presents the traveling exhibition Dive into the Past — Discovering Underwater Archaeology, produced by the Roussillon Archaeology Museum.

This exhibition highlights archaeological heritage and offers a digital and immersive experience for the whole family. From archaeological excavations on the seabed to the equipment and methods used by underwater archaeologists, discover an unusual profession and the hidden treasures of the St. Lawrence River.

For the first time, the MAQ will present a fragment of the Marquis de Malauze wreck from its collection. A remnant of a wooden frigate built around 1745 and sunk on July 8, 1760, during the Battle of Restigouche, the wreck illustrates a pivotal moment in our history. Important to many Acadian families who participated in the famous battle, the wreck has also been classified as a heritage object since 1965 and is one of the first submerged heritage sites to have been preserved in Quebec.

CThis exhibition was made possible with the support of the Government of Canada.
