Social engagement is at the heart of the Musée acadien du Québec's development. As a leading cultural institution in the Gaspé Peninsula, its role as a community leader is extremely important. We believe that community development requires the social involvement of all stakeholders.

The Acadian Museum of Quebec is proud to have been a partner of the Accroche-cœur Community Social Pediatrics Center since its founding.

About Accroche-coeur

In Quebec, many children are born and raised in difficult living conditions: poverty, financial insecurity, nutritional deficiencies, unsanitary housing, exposure to models of violence, inadequate relationship models, or unstable, anxiety-provoking, or ambivalent attachment figures, placing them in a vulnerable situation. While they should be receiving increased protection, support, and guidance, they are instead subject to early disengagement from their families and the community. In fact, the rate of placement of children from vulnerable backgrounds is particularly high. The adults around them are often preoccupied with issues of survival and subsistence, making it difficult for them to provide these children with the attention and care they need.

Why community-based social pediatrics?

In Quebec, thousands of children do not receive the care and support they need to grow up healthy and reach their full potential. In difficult living environments, these shortcomings have serious consequences on their overall development and health. They can result in an increased risk of chronic diseases in adulthood. Community-based social pediatrics, which focuses on the needs, interests, and strengths of children, addresses these needs by caring for, supporting, and empowering children and their families.

How to nurture and equip our children for life

Community-based social pediatrics is based on an integrated care approach centered around the needs of the child. This comprehensive health model places the child, their family, and their social network at the center. Care and services are provided by a team of dedicated professionals and volunteers who work in partnership with institutions and the community for the well-being and development of children, like a large protective and caring circle.
