Value of the item
The object bears witness to the life of a person of Acadian origin, and more specifically, one of the co-founders of the Musée acadien du Québec, Juliette Gauthier Barrette.
In doing so, the photograph bears witness to the participation of people of Acadian origin in the artistic, political, and social effervescence of Quebec, since the Musée acadien du Québec now represents all of Quebec's Petites-Cadies.

Juliette Gauthier (1907-1991) is one of the illustrious figures who promoted Acadian culture in Quebec. In 1941, she married Douglas Barrette, manager of the Robin general store in Bonaventure. In 1960, during Bonaventure's bicentennial celebrations, Ms. Gauthier opened the Acadian History Museum in Robin's store. The museum consisted of objects donated by the community for an exhibition during the bicentennial. She also offered visitors an impressive selection of fossilized fish to admire, prior to the inauguration of Miguasha National Park. In 1974, the museum moved to its current location in the former public hall, and the building was then moved to Grand-Pré Street in 1977.
