Bonaventure, September 23, 2025 – The Musée acadien du Québec (MAQ) presents Alguier d’été, an exhibition by artist Mélissa Longpré, on display from October 5 to December 21, 2025.

With Alguier d’été, the artist presents the results of his research into experimental printing using seaweed. The resulting monotypes form a visual and poetic inventory that combines art and science.

Mélissa Longpré is interested in algae because of the richness of their shapes and textures. She believes that knowledge of these organisms fuels our sense of belonging to the land. That is why she incorporates scientific identifications and descriptions into her installation. Her works also echo the engraving matrices of Françoise Bujold (1933–1981), an artist and poet from Bonaventure who also drew inspiration from the Gaspé Peninsula’s natural environment.

The public is invited to discover seaweed prints on cotton paper, observational drawings, and samples that have been collected from beaches in the region.

The exhibition opening will take place on Sunday, October 5, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
