The photograph shows a woman of Acadian descent from Bonaventure. She is Marie-Marthe Arsenault (1843-1923), who married Pierre Alexis Poirier on September 16, 1872. Marie-Marthe was Pierre Alexis's second wife; he had previously married Marie Poirier in 1845. Pierre Alexis was the first mayor of the municipality of Bonaventure, holding this position from 1861 to 1875, according to the Bonaventure Registers.
