In 1914, Quebec's Ministry of Agriculture set up a system for producing incubated chicks in various villages. "Stations" were created, equipped with incubators holding between 1,200 and 5,000 eggs. The first incubation unions were formed and operated on the principle of cooperative hatcheries. By 1931, the cooperative hatchery organization was in full swing. Eight hatcheries were set up in Quebec, including the one in Bonaventure. In the following years, several hatcheries were established throughout Quebec. Many of them included breeding programs. The Bonaventure hatchery was active until the 1960s and was managed by the Société Coopérative Agricole.
The Bonaventure agricultural cooperative was responsible for the cooperative hatchery, among other things, and the building was adjacent to the butter factory. The cooperative store was located in the western part of the village, next to the Motels de la Plage. The Society is believed to have been active from 1914 to 1955.
