Value of the item

The object commemorates an important event for Acadians, namely the period from 1955 to 1960, which marked the bicentennial of the Deportation and the founding of several Acadian communities in Quebec, such as Bonaventure. Numerous commemorative events were organized to celebrate these bicentennials throughout Quebec and the Maritime provinces.

In addition, the object bears witness to the development of Acadian and Gaspé society in general. It bears witness to the development of ties between the Petites-Cadies in Quebec and other Acadian settlements in the Maritime provinces and the United States.

The attached pages present some of the key locations of Acadian settlements in the Maritime Provinces and Louisiana, among others. They also mention various family names that are still present today: Léger, Arsenault, Richard, Cormier, Doucet, etc.
