Pixel Acadie – a surprise exhibition at the MAQ!

Bonaventure, November 22, 2023 – The Musée acadien du Québec (MAQ) and visual artist Bruno Mainville present Pixel Acadie, a cultural mediation and exhibition project carried out with students from École aux Quatre-Vents in Bonaventure.

The goal of the Pixel Acadie project was to encourage students to reflect on the concept of identity by creating links between the museum's permanent exhibition, the temporary exhibition L'Univers de Capitaine Acadie (The World of Captain Acadia), and portraits from the MAQ collection. Visual artist Bruno Mainville was approached to carry out this mandate.

Three art classes from grades 9, 10, and 11 at École aux Quatre-Vents in Bonaventure participated in the project to create digital works based on old portraits from the MAQ collection.

Following the creation period and exhibition at the MAQ, the final phase of the project will involve the creation of a mural with augmented reality that will be installed at the École aux Quatre-Vents.

"The young people learned how to use software and integrate seemingly disparate elements to create an original and harmonious work. It will result in a beautiful mural and a very original exhibition, with images on paper and video. I can't wait for the opening!" – Bruno Mainville.

OPENING RECEPTION: Sunday, December 3, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the MAQ. This free event will give the public an opportunity to meet the students and the visual artist.

EXHIBITION: December 4 to 8. For the occasion, the MAQ will extend its opening hours until 7 p.m.
