The Musée acadien du Québec (MAQ) is pleased to present the second installment of its series of exhibitions on built heritage, Maisons Mémoire. Produced by the MAQ and based on historical research on houses and buildings in our region, the second temporary exhibition in the series will highlight the fabulous history of La maison de Mme Rose.

The history of Mrs. Rose's house is closely linked to that of her garden. Cultivated for over 130 years on Henry Road in Cullens Brook (Bonaventure), it has been home to four families and has witnessed the evolution of domestic agriculture in Quebec. When it was built at the end of the 19th century, the vast majority of Quebec's population still lived off traditional subsistence farming, focused primarily on the needs of the family. Come and discover its history!

The choice of the exhibition title was made by the current owner of the house, Mr. André Babin, who wanted to pay tribute to its previous owner, Mrs. Rose Bujold (who celebrated her 101st birthday last November). The museum team wholeheartedly supported this proposal.

ABOUT MAISONS MÉMOIRE

The Acadian Museum of Quebec has launched a series of exhibitions entitled Maisons Mémoire in January 2021. Through these exhibitions, it aims to convey the idea that built heritage is a central element in forging a sense of belonging to a community and Acadian identity. An Acadian house is a house inhabited or built by Acadians. We want to convey their stories and memories through objects and souvenirs connected to the house.
